Marines would have failed to
return, Supreme Court's Contempt
Notice to the Italian Envoy would
have become effective from
midnight as 22nd March ends.
Supreme Court had asked Mancini
not to leave the country without its
permission after Italy's refusal to send the marines back. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had warned Italy that there would be "consequences". UPA chief Sonia Gandhi had accused Rome of an unacceptable "betrayal". ( International News)
