The Vice Chancellor of Tripura University has been caught on camera allegedly accepting bribes from a Kolkata-based printing firm in exchange for the award of a contract worth Rs. 60 lakh. The video, filmed by local news channel News Vanguard as part of a sting titled Operation White Collar and shared with NDTV, appears to show the Vice Chancellor, VL Dharukar, negotiating a bribe of 10 per cent of the contract. Hours after AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi accused the Congress candidate Alleti Maheshwar Reddy of offering Rs 25 lakh as "party fund" to cancel his rally in Nirmal, the latter has denied the charge. Holding a press conference Reddy said that he never spoke to Owaisi and accused him of creating a sensation. “He said I offered Rs 25 lakhs. Former Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on Monday flayed political parties for not raising the seat-for- cash CD controversy involving JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy in the Assembly "for the fear of more exposures coming to light." "Nobody has raised this issue.They do not want to discuss the cash-for- seat issue in the Assembly and public forums because there will be more exposures. They want to have a quiet burial," Hegde said. Hegde, a former Supreme Court judge, said the system of democracy is getting commercialised where people are profiting out of it. Kumaraswamy himself allegedly asking money for MLC seat reflects his party in poor light, Hegde said. "Horse-trading and cash-for-seat is nothing but out and out bribery.
