Politics curtailing freedom of speech
seems to have become the order of
the day. While Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister banned actor Kamal Hassan's
Vishwaroopam, West Bengal Chief
Minister Mamata Banarjee has
banned author Salman Rushdie from
participating in the Kolkata Literary
Festival. Interestingly, both the Chief
Minister's have cited Law and order as
being behind the ban, when there
was hardly any provocation. The move
of Chief Minister which tantamount to
dereliction of their constitutional
duties in protecting freedom of
speech is said to be based on
nurturing the Muslim Vote bank.
