In a surprising turn of events, anti nuclear
activists who held protests this morning near
the controversial Kudankulam nuclear plant
have now called off a sea siege near the site.
Anti nuclear activists had renewed their
protests amid reports that the Centre is likely
to commission the facility by the end of this
month. More than 100 fishermen had taken out
their boats and laid siege from the seaside,
chanting slogans against the nuclear project.
But they suddenly called off the protests when
they realised that police had entered the
villages and may have arrested the villagers,
most of whom included women.
