Living with an inflated ego can rob you of many things in life, like your sleep and mental peace. When ego comes into the picture, everything else in your life leaves. Listen to Mahatria explain why letting go of your ego is important and how it can impede your personal growth.
Once, there was a crow that was flying with a piece of meat in its beak. Soon, a flock of other birds began chasing after the crow. The farther away it flew, a greater number of birds began flying after it. Eventually, it occurred to the crow that the other birds were not after it, but rather, were after the meat.
Realizing this, the crow dropped the meat and watched as the other birds dove after it. The simple act gave the crow the freedom of the skies to fly wherever it wanted.
That piece of meat is your ego, Mahatria explains. People often think that the world is targeting them, is nasty towards them, but in reality, it is their ego that is hurting.
When ego comes into the picture, everything else in your life leaves. When ego exits from your life, everything else returns. Letting go of your ego will help you reclaim freedom to lead life the way you want.
Living with an inflated ego means living in this eternal need to prove your worth to the world. You do not need the world’s validation. You are accountable to your creator, to your own conscience, and to the truth, Mahatria reminds us. There is no need to get the entire world’s approval.
If you try to make everyone happy with who you are, then you will never be at peace with yourself. It is impractical to believe that you can make everyone happy; it is an unrealistic demand that your ego has. Drop your ego identities, Mahatria urges.
Be a seeker. Look for transformation.
Explaining his own standpoint, Mahatria clarifies that when he takes the stage, there is no sense of status, but only an immense responsibility.
Tracing his story backwards, he says that through his journey of creating infinithoughts, he met many people along the way who inspired him. This prompted him to write a column titled “Salute”.
After 25 years, Mahatria went back to his alma mater, his high school, and spoke with the headmaster. Through that conversation, his headmaster, Clement Felix, narrated an incident that transformed the way Mahatria looked at life after that point.
Headmaster Felix had built a chapel inside his school, and was the first headmaster to do so. It gave him immense pride at first, he had admitted to Mahatria. Eventually though, the Headmaster recognized his own arrogance. He went up to the Church, got down on his knee and proclaimed to the Creator that he would no longer take credit for building the chapel.
“The time for the church to be built had come, and I happened to be the Headmaster of the school at the time. Thank you, Lord, for making me the Headmaster of the school at a time when the building came into existence,” Headmaster Felix recalled to Mahatria. “With or without me, thy will would have brought the church there. Thank you for the benevolence that I was the Headmaster at that time.”
The story, Mahatria says, had a deep impact on him. Ever since, he no longer credits himself for people’s transformation. Instead, he recognizes that he is merely an intermediary who happens to be present in the life of people whose time for awakening had arrived.
Let Your Ego Go
