Ireland: Indian women dies after being refused abortion - NewsX

Shocker for an Indian couple living in Ireland
for last four years. 31-yr-old Savita
Halappanavar dies in Ireland due to an archaic
law. Savita was a dentist of Indian origin and
was 17 weeks pregnant. Her husband rushed
her to hospital as she was in acute pain and
had miscarried baby. Savita was admitted to
Galway university hospital in Ireland, and even
after her condition worsened, doctors refused
to carry out an abortion. She was denied a
medical termination of pregnancy as abortion is
illegal in the devoutly Catholic Republic of
Ireland. Savita finally developed septicaemia
and died on October 28.
