Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh
signed an agreement with the Jan Satyagrahis
who were marching to Delhi demanding
government's help for getting jobs and land.
The agreement, signed in Agra, assures land for the landless on the lines of MNREGA. Following this, the landless protestors called of their march.
The Jan Satyagrahis have been on the road for
the past nine days demanding of agricultural
land and shelter rights for the landless poor.
More than 30,000 people have walked 110
kilometers for nine days on the road from
Gwalior to Delhi. The tribals under the umbrella
of a Gandhian organisation, Ekta Parishad, had
started the march after their talks with Union
government's representative including Jairam
Ramesh and Minister of State for Industry and
Commerce failed. Jairam Ramesh has had hectic
consultations with members of the Ekta
Parishad and the Prime Minister's Office.
