Citizens of Pestom Sagar Citizen Forum (PSCF), Chembur wins the three-year long battle against a local bakery in their area, which has caused many senior citizens to suffer from Asthma and other respiratory diseases.
Pestom Sagars active citizens had complained to their ward officer since last three years against the poisonous smoke from the Ganesh bakery in their vicinity. According to their complaint letter to Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and their ward office, they say that the height of the Chimney is shorter than the height of the building near the bakery, thus the smoke from the bakery directly enters into the nearby houses and cause lot of respiratory problems. Some residents of the forum allegedly held the bakery responsible for deaths of two citizens who died of lung cancer in a year.
Prakash Barshikar (65), a member of PSCF said, Since last three years some of the senior citizens who stay here are suffering because of the toxic smoke emitted from the bakery. I am suffering through Asthma for some time now. We tried to amicable resolve the matter, but the bakery owner is rude with thus, thus we thought of taking a step further and complaint against him.
